Include Base Price set to NO, but its still adding it

OK, big question. Time sensitive!! :)

Can someone explain to me what the difference is between setting a base price at $4 and making the attribute price $4 and set "Include in Base Price When Priced by Attributes" to "NO" ...

VS.

...setting the base price to "$0" and making the attribute price $4 and set "Include in Base Price When Priced by Attributes" to "YES"??

Shouldn't both these methods produce the same result? A product starting at $4...and when added to the cart with that particular attribute is $4?

The zencart site is adding in the base price along with the attribute price making the total $8.

ANY HELP PROVIDED...I WOULD LOVE IT!! :)

You can select priced by attributes and enter no price in the product

Or enter a product price and have the attributes added to that base price

So I can't put the total price in the attribute (not difference +4) and the product base price and just set the attribute to not include the base price?

The client set up this way and the store is live with thousands of products and said it was originally working and he said it is not now.

I just curious as to why the base price is being added into the total when the setting, INCLUDE BASE PRICE, within the attribute, is set to NO.

Products use the Product Price and the Attribute Price to make the total Price ...

The Priced by Attribute is designed so that the display price shows properly when Attributes make up the Price of the Product ...

The Attribute included in based price is to adjust the display price and indicate should the Attribute be looked at when building the display price ...

The Display price on Priced by Attribute products uses the lowest Attribute Price of each Option Name group ...

Sometimes, you may not want the lowest Attribute price used so you can turn it off on an Attribute by Attribute basis ...

The Price of a Product is the Product Price plus any Attribute Prices ...

If you enter a Product Price of 4.00 and an Attribute Price of 4.00 you get a Display Price of $4.00 but you get $8.00 on the Price when added to the cart for $4.00 plus $4.00 ...

If you enter a Product Price of 0.00 and an Attribute Price of 4.00 and mark the Product as Priced by Attribute ... you get a Display Price of $4.00 and when added to the cart you get a Price of $4.00 ...

If you mark that Attribute as not included in the base price, the price will show as blank with no price as there isn't any of the Attributes in the Priced by Attribute Product that are included in the base Price for the Display Price ... but when added to the cart, the Price will be $4.00 ...

If all the Attributes are $4.00, then do not price any of the Attributes and just price the Product as 4.00 and do NOT mark the Product as Priced by Attribute ...

Thanks so much Linda for explaining that the INCLUDE BASE PRICE is for display purposes vs calculating purposes. I had started to realize that was the problem after manipulating some of the products in the store. After hearing you confirm it, helped me out greatly!
