Default Add new required custom form to checkout

    Hi

My customer sells some fairly large prducts, shop counters etc. He has had some customers order a product of certain dimensions only to find upon delivery that it will not fit through their door / entrance or there is an awkward stairway or lift to negotiate. He would like to know if there is a way to put a required form on the checkout so that customers have to state that the products will fit or even better he would like to have various fields such as "entrance width" " entrance height" "staircase to negotiate" etc so he can form a better image of what he has to do. Ie deliver complete or modular.

    Is this possible?

    Use attributes for those products.

You say use attributes, we do use attributes for the different sizes available and the customer orders accordingly. What the customers seem to forget sometimes is that the units may be delivered complete rather than flat packed. So he would like the form at checkout to make sure the unit can be delivered in one piece. Apart from that the use of a required form would be good for all sorts of other purposes.

    Is this possible?

As Clyde says, you could use an attribute. Create a text attribute that is REQUIRED, and in the appropriate attribute comment (or create a bespoke text define), tell the customer to verify the dimensions of building entrances, confirming that the unit orderd will fit through a doorway.

OK That will but it on the product page, and I appreciate the work around thank you. But is there a way to put extra form fields at checkout if certain products have been ordered?

The basic answer to your question is "yes"... there are ways to add extra fields.

But unfortunately, not by using standard zencart features/functions.

These will have to be coded, and you will need additional tables/fields in the database too, I would imagine. The fact that you wish to make this feature product-specific raises additional complications, because the product would have to be flagged when it is loaded up, and that "flag" needs to be stored somewhere in the database, and then a whole bunch of code written around what to do if that flag is raised: eg: render addfitional fields, collect additional data, store additional data... etc.

You will need to hire a coder very experienced in zencart.

Thank you for your quick reply, I think I will steer the customer down the required text attribute route. Many thanks for all your comments and help.
