Default Rotating banner (stripviewer) out of place on load

    Hello Zenners,

v1.3.9h fresh install to godaddy hosting
Addons: Template, buttons made with zen button construction, column layout grid.
I have further modified with my own logos, banners, graphics.

At the risk of being spanked and sent to my room without supper....

I have a layout issue. My rotating banner, which is classed as a stripviewer, initially loads below the stationary banner that should reside to the left of it. After a few moments the rotating banner will "jump" back into place.

I did alter the dimensions of this banner from the original template dimensions making it smaller, and it has been jumping ever since.

I am far from an expert and have managed to do everything I have done by reading the great posts from those of you who actually know what you are doing.

Any help or point in the right direction is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Just guessing, but it may have something to do with the slow page load thanks to your product images being way too big (file size, not dimensions). You might try optimizing them and see if the problem goes away.

I just finished putting those images through photoshop and saving with the optimize for web. WOW... so they were unreasonably big, including the little images in the carousel. Thanks for the heads up.

It didn't change the slider loading issue though. I think I missed something when I made the banner smaller and I can't figure out what it is.

I did however, discover something interesting. After optimizing I tested the load time and used firefox rather than chrome to make sure it was a fresh load and because I hadn't looked at it for a long time with firefox. It appears that chrome is sizing the category images nicely and firefox is leaving them in a craptastic condition.

This will all come down to the fact that I didn't bother to manually resize the category images in photoshop... yep, looked so good in chrome I just went with it. Even IE sizes the cat images nicely. Looks like I will have to resize the category images manually and upload again since 50% of the world seems to be using firefox. I will do that and check load time again.

You might take a look at the Image Handler 2 mod.

Thanks stevesh. I have downloaded the image handler 2 mod, but have yet to take the time to install it. Looks like that will happen tonight as it will save me tons of time.

I did change the front page cat. images to 72dpi and 160x120px and still get a drag on that rotating banner. Still haven't determined why, but I must be missing something. I cut the height in half from the original template size and think I overlooked some code. I have been through the html and css to no avail.

Thanks again- you too Kobra :)

In looking for image handler 2 I found image handler 3. It is installed, and configured for the most part. Still getting the delay in the banner. However, the image handler is better than sliced bread and will save me HOURS of photo editing and re-sizing!

    THANK YOU!!
    xoxo

Kobra - I deserved that and acknowledge the anticipated spanking. I am not clever enough to create from scratch and used it for speed and ease. I knew I would be told off for that. And, as we know, they have no real customer support. I do appreciate that you took the time to look.

Stevesh - Thank you for your time. I did think I optimized for web when saving in photoshop, but I will run them through the process again and see if I get a better result.
