so am still looking for a very very easy explanation as am finding the tutorials expect you to have alot more knowledge than some people have that are new to all this.
Unfortunately this is not a forum where we teach the basics of website management. w3schools.com is a good place to start.

Your solution is either to learn such basics, or hire someone to do these tasks for you.

Misty thank you for the link, will take a look at it shortly :)

Schoolboy I can understand what you are saying but

I am learning by trying to do all this myself I dont need website management training I already have another website but it is for my hobby and totally built that myself and I installed both the portal and forum on it which was alot easier than am finding zencart to install and also use, and am not going to pay someone to do this

No Zencart isnt a teaching forum but the forum is a support forum that is all I was asking for and making a suggestion that might help new users to the software

I could of taken the easy route and used fantastico to install the cart for me but chose to do it manually so that I can learn how to do it

maybe I should of taken the easy route

NO, you made correct decision. Installing via Fantastico
    definitely not good idea.
Follow tutorial i posted..should take you no more than
    20 mins to achieve.

Misty thank you am reading it now

but am still confused by it this is the problem

Its saying determine the folder I want to move zencart to but if I want it to be my homepage as in the first page people see when they go to my site doesnt it need to be in my public html folder ?

is that where I move it to then change the configue files thats another thing am not sure on how to do as its not instructions as such just saying what needs doing and not explaining how to

thats all I am asking for is a bit of a fuller explanation on how to do this

right am off to do a backup on my databases and my site just incase I need to or would it just be easier to uninstall zencart and then install it into the public_html folder directly? if I do this can I use all the same details again for my admin and passes and email address ?

    Thanks

    Angie

    YES.
    Move all files/folders from your /public html/zencart folder/
    into main public_html
BACK UP complete site and MYSQL database first.
When you have done that, only 2 files to alter
    /admin/includes/configure.php and /includes/configure.php
would it just be easier to uninstall zencart and then install it into the public_html folder directly? if I do this can I use all the same details again for my admin and passes and email address ?
If you feel happier doing it that way, fine. You will need to create new database.

Sorry if I sounded curt. That is not my intention. The point is that managing zencart is (in a LOT of respects) no different from managing any other website. There are universal principles, techniques and methods that dictate best practice in website development and management.

There are literally thousands of tutorial sites on the WWW that focus on these key principles, so replicating their stuff here is just re-inventing the wheel. And besides... the good tutorial sites are much better at giving the proper advice.

Guys on the PHP Forum would say the same as I have if you went there to seek help on (for example) CSS.

Thats ok and I probably took it the wrong way as was getting fairly frustrated aswell

I know what your saying but what I was trying to say was there is a big assumption that everyone knows php etc or thats how it can come across

I can write html and can get by with css though do not like css one little bit

its php that I just cannot get on with and am trying to figure this out as I do need to get the website up and ready to be used by monday or tuesday next week aswell

I am just starting my own buisiness and I do want to learn to do it myself

all I was asking was for a fuller explanation of what I needed to do

    Its sorted now though

Although a knowledge of php is a plus, it's not actually necessary to use Zen Cart. You do need to know enough css to tweak stuff, but even then you can probably find an answer either in the Tutorials/FAQ or on the forum. The Zen Cart learning curve can be steep, but it's worth it.
