Default PayPal Checkout in default currency

My store's default currency is Canadian and my PayPal is set to accept only Cdn. No problems there.

If a customer views the prices in USD and checks out that way, then PP will convert from USD to Cdn. My question is- is there a way for the Checkout page to automatically revert to the default currency so that PP receives the Cdn figure? Because the exchange rates in Zen are not exactly the same as PP, I can lose a fraction on each transaction when going from X to Cdn.

If the issue is with the Currency Conversion Ratio, then I'll say I played around with it in order to get the display of other currencies on the site to better match what PP charges...yet there seems to be a limit to how accurate it can get. I changed it from the default of 1.05 to 1.0, which is much better, but the prices on site did not change by even a penny when I tried 1.01 or .99, etc.

    I'm using 1.39g.

    Cheers,

    R

I should add that I only wish to receive payments in Cdn. because all my expenses are in that currency and the Cdn. dollar is strong these days. If I accepted other currencies, I'd either lose 2-4% on many transactions or have to raise the prices to compensate.

The simplest way to fix that is to delete all the currencies except CAD from your Admin->Localization->Currencies screen.

Thing is, I do want my visitors to be able to see the prices in their currencies. So if that suggestion is also the only one, then I guess I'll remove the Currencies sidebox and add a link to an exchange rate site.

But wait a second- isn't this an issue with many sites that use the sidebox?

And I just re-examined a test purchase and see that the email confirmation and Admin Orders reflect the amount in USD, but that the PayPal receipt mentions the default Cdn. price and then the amount exchanged from USD. So that negates my original issue with PayPal- sorry I didn't pay more attention at first!- though raises a similar issue on the admin side because I need the system data to be in sync with my bills and paperwork. Hm...
