It occurs to me that if somehow the <body id=" line were not being output, the $zv_onload parameters would not be output either, and that might affect something like javascripts that make fb/twitter links.

This must be the culprit:
if($this_is_home_page)
{
include DIR_WS_TEMPLATE."common/splash.php";
exit();
}
splash.php is totally replacing the processing of tpl_main_page.php. What does that file look like?

Since you shared your site, If I may suggest using solid background for site content as the waves may seem relevant to you but site suffer from readability.
