Get rid of the "->" next to my category titles

In the category side box there is a "->" symbol next to any category that has a subcategory. I want to change it or get rid of it but after thoroughly searching both the faqs and forum and trying to browse through the php and admin myself i can't find where to do it at.

Please help. and thanks for anything you can tell me
