    help question Issue with Installation

    Hi there :]

Unfortunately I'm having issues with actually installing Zen-Cart.

When I try access my shop to install installation, by going to www. my site. ca/Shop, I see this.

    1. This is your first time using Zen Cart™ and you haven't yet completed the normal Installation procedure.
If this is the case for you, Click here to begin installation.

    2. Your /includes/configure.php and/or /admin/includes/configure.php file contains invalid path information and/or invalid database-connection information.
If you recently edited your configure.php files for any reason, or maybe moved your site to a different folder or different server, then you'll need to review and update all your settings to the correct values for your server.
See the Online FAQ and Tutorials area on the Zen Cart™ website for assistance.
    3. Additional Details: includes/configure.php file contents invalid. ie: DIR_FS_CATALOG not valid or not set
Steps I have taken already -

I've uploaded Zen-Cart to my site, did the naming of the configure files, and changed their permissions. And I've changed the permissions for all the other mentioned areas in the 'How to install Zen-Cart' Guide. https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/i...hp?article=107

Please understand that I am rather new to setting up such things. I cannot afford to go elsewhere, and am willing and able to learn.

I'm sure it's likely something simple, but I don't understand it. So if someone can explain to me what this means, I would be very grateful.

    Other Information -
My version of Zen-Cart: 1.3.9 (Current)
I'm hosting my site with Atspace

If there is more information I should give, that I'm not thinking of, please let me know.

If there are any guides that I can be linked to, that thoroughly answer my question, please just drop a link if you like.
Thank you very much, and I hope to get this sorted out soon. I really appreciate anyone willing to help, and perhaps 'dumb down' cart terms for my benefit.

    - Shannon M.

Greetings and Welcome to the Forum.

    Two things you didn't mention:
    - creating a database
    - running the install (www. my site. ca/Shop/zc_install)

You need to do the first before doing the second.

Thank you kindly, and my apologies.

I've created a MySql? Data base. Do I need to somehow tie this into the shop? I'm unsure how that all works, and didn't see a mention of it in the help section.

If i try to Install Zen-Cart with the way you provided, I get

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [no address given] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Yes, I've been investigating around there, as well as searching the web for hours earlier. Thank you though.

I was hoping that someone either knew what the below meant, or had the same issue and had it resolved.

The Server error is likely connected to that ^^^ In my mind anyways.
So you can see, I'm looking to find out what is wrong with my "configure.php" file(s).
And what this means "DIR_FS_CATALOG not valid or not set".

Did you manually edit the configure files?

    What do they have?
    Where are you installing to?

Like the root of the domain or in a folder?

That message instructs you to contact the server administrator. That would be your hosting company.

    What did they say?

Worrying about DIR_FS_CATALOG is irrelevant at this stage.

    Delete these two files:

    admin/includes/configure.php
    includes/configure.php

Then go to www. my site. ca/Shop/zc_install/

If you still get the "Internal Server Error" msg. then delete this file: zc_install/.htaccess

Odds are you have incorrect information in one or both of your config files. Zen Cart will recreate each of the config files and allow you to input the correct information as part of the install procedure.

Given that you're installing on a windoze server, deleting all the .htaccess files may be necessary, and then you'll need to work with your hosting company to come up with a different way of providing the same security protections that the .htaccess files would provide in conjunction with using Apache as the webserver engine.

No, I had not configured them myself.

Oh, sorry! I had uploaded them to a folder in the root.

This has worked for me! Thank you so very much Rob
I've been able to get to the Install page now, but it's saying that CURL is not supported, so I'll need to look into that with my host.

Thank you! I'll need to look into Apache, as I'm unfamiliar with what it is.

Thank you so much everyone. I hope I'll be able to resolve the rest on my own, but if I can't I'm glad there is such a nice community to offer me so much help. ^_^
