    Default Caching Issues

    Greetings,

I am not very familiar with Zen Cart. I am trying to help someone out who is having server problems in the form of excessive inode creation, i.e. vast numbers of directories and files are being generated by their Zen Cart installation.

I have isolated this to a cache folder located at 'installation root'/cache/ssu/pc

There are numbered and lettered directories that keep getting regenerated there that go from 0-9 and a-f. Each directory has many subdirectories repeating this format many many subdirectories deep.

Eventually if you go in deep enough you come across a file such as 00d00eda7365637c6b1e8f2ac9213a1d_en.txt that will have something like: 'gift-certificates-c-25?page=1&sort=3a' as the only content.

They are running Zen Cart 1.3.8a with Database Patch Level: 1.3.8

I would love to be able to stop this excessive file generation as their hosting company is not happy about this. When I deleted the files for them this weekend it removed over 700,000 directories and files.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you!

    -Brendan

Both of these are not default ZenCart functions

ZenCart itself, generates very little in the way of files and what it does are temp session items

One would have to look into the SSU SEO rewrite and the IH2 image 3rd party addons for any clues as to what and why the many fines are created

Just a note - that is a very old version that has known exploits - you need to get them upgraded too.

If SSU is causing problems, try turning it off. Granted, that'll potentially change the way the site is indexed by search engines.
But, there's a support thread for that addon itself ... so if you can't find the info you need in that addon's readme/docs, then maybe reading about the issues others have had with that addon might shed some light on things you're facing.

Awesome, thank you all for the input. I'm going to look into the SSU plugin and I'll have a conversation about upgrading ASAP.

    I really appreciate the help!
