Maintaining Image Sizes

Hi,

I'd like to get images to display to the same size irrespective of whether they are portrait, landscape or square.

In "Category View" all the images appear to size to "height" so that landscape images are noticeably larger than portrait images.

In "Recently Viewed" all images appear to size by width so that portrait images are noticeably larger than landscape ones.

Is it possible to create images that not only keep their aspect ratio but size by the longest side?

This means that a 120x80 landscape thumbnail will occupy the same area as a 80x120 thumbnail rather than being resized either to a fixed width or a fixed height?
