Default Moving store to another server to edit...

Hey all. I've been reading through posts here and everyone seems really helpful. Thought I'd pose my question.

I installed my zen cart right to my public_html folder. Right now I'm editing it and waiting to tell anyone until it's ready to go live. I'd RATHER move it to another server and edit there and create a "coming soon" park page in the meantime.

The FAQ's gave instructions on how to do this but they aren't meant for someone that is learning as they go. A support rep at my hosting company said to move the files to a subfolder but which one? Move it to /public_html/docs or where? Once I do that, how do I access it so that I can edit again? Do I type .com/docs/(admin) ?

I have so little knowledge about this kind of stuff it kind of hurts! Help?

Assumimg it isn't going to be that long before you're ready to go, it might be easier to leave your store where it is, and create your Coming Soon page, name it index.html, and place it in the root (public_html) folder with the rest of your Zencart files. Most servers are set up to load index.html first (before index.php) so visitors to your domain will see that page.

Interesting little trick! I'll give that a shot and keep you updated! Many thanks.

stevesh - worked perfectly! Thanks. Didn't have to move a thing and didn't have to change a single line of text to still access my admin login.

I'm assuming once I'm ready to launch, I can go ahead and just delete that file?

That's right. Also, people can still access your store by adding /index.php to the url, but most won't know it's there, anyway.
