I'm gonna need more proof before I plan for more than 1024 x 768.
Most of us are still using the 960 Grid System.

It's always a good idea to check out any site you're developing using a tool such as this one from Google Labs. That way you can decide where to put your most important information and can see how people with smaller screens/browser windows will see your site. No need to believe statistics. You just need to put your most important info up where people can easily see it. And be sure to check out different pages on your site, not just the home page.

Thanks for that advice and for clarifying things for me. I suppose my site template could be considered a little too wide in that case but when i view other sites they appear in the same co-ordinates. also when i minimize the browser the site minimizes accordingly. I know what you are saying about page placement though. the site is still under construction but I would appreciate you having a look, link is here if you get a chance because I have to say I am still a little vague as to an issue with this but this is my first site so probably just hasn't dawned yet!!

Hi Orkid, not sure if this is what you are looking for, couldn't find initially where I found the stretch background but here is the link now.

Im not disputing using 1024x768 as a basis webpage design, just your point that 'I don't think many people are running more than 1024x786".....

I can't think of a laptop made in the last 7 years that runs 1024x768 as a max resolution. Every comp running Vista is most likely to be running more, and Windows 7.

1024x768 will be the minority now, just as W3C says. Do you think they plucked those stats out of thin air? My own stats on my own sites give the same data.
