Default shiping per item by weight, please help.

Hello, i am looking into setting up shipping! I live in Australia so i have changed my weight from lb to kg, Pound to Kilograms.

Anyway i want to price shipping for different zones by weight, but i htink all the instructions around here tell you how in lb. I am not to sure how to do this.

I read you have to have a format like this in modules/ shiping/ zone rates/

    it says

    order weights/prices. Example: 3:8.50,7:10.50
    So i think the 8:50 is 8 dollars 50

but what is the 3 all about?

is that the weight, because 3 is not a weight in kg, it could be 3 grams which is 3/1000 of a kilo

but thats not realistically speaking 0.250 is a quarter of a kilo

could some one explain further for me?
    Thanks heaps

As it says in the module configuration:

Example: 3:8.50,7:10.50,... Weight/Price less than or equal to 3 would cost 8.50 for Zone 1 destinations.

So the 3 means that up to 3 lbs or kgs would cost 8:50. More than 3 but less than or equal to 7 would be 10.50, etc.

Kg is your weight measure, so in that case, it means 3Kg.

    0.250:10.00, 0.500:13.00

or would i have to work in kilos

    say

    1:20.00

most of what i sell will be under 500 grams which is half a kil, thank you so much!

    I'm not sure.

What shipping company is providing your estimates ?

Did you enter the product weight as 250, or 250g in the product setup page ?

I'd be tempted to use Kg as your base weight measure and add the product weights as fractions ( .5 for 500 grams).

Zencart doesn't know what a gram or a pound is. As long as you're consistent, and enter your product weights as fractions or multiples of the base measure, it'll do its job. Shipping estimators may have other ideas, but I've never heard of this particular problem.

Au post is the shipping company is Au post.

i enter the product weight 250
it shows up as 250 g on the site

    would just 250:10.00 work?

or change the universal weight to kg

making the item .25 or .50

    .25:10.00

    or would both methods work?

    Thanks heaps for uyopur help
