Products without categories

Can you add products to the cart without them having to be under categories?

While it's possible to place products in the top folder, you don't want to do so, as it will make the product listing display do strange things, and you won't be able to create categories.

What exactly do you want to do, and why ?

Ya I tried placing products in the top folder without a category and the store wasn't functioning properly.
There is only one category of products in the store. In the categories box, it just shows one category and that doesn't look good. I would like to display the products on the main page, possibly even in the categories box without showing the category.
Is there a way to do this?
