Additional Image not working in subfolder

Hi,

Originally I was putting all images directly under the image folder. However, since I have over 1000 products and over 5000 images, my hosting requested me to restructure the file and folder so that I do not have more than 1024 files in each folder.

Therefore, I need to create subfolders under the image directory to hold the images. Then I select several product for testing. I created a subfolder and put all related images of these products to the subfolder. Then I repointed the main image location of these products. However, it can only recognize the main photo, and there is NO additional image shown. It worked perfectly originally when the images were in the root image folder. why does it not working when the images were moved to subfolder?

I only have a week to restructure the files or the hosting may suspend my account. I will highly appreciate any idea or solution.

my current version is:
1.3.9h installed with mod additional_images_v.1.1

What do the additional image names look like in relation to the main image name? Subfolders require the use of an underscore _ to set off the "additional" part of the filename, such as fred.jpg, fred_1.jpg, fred_2.jpg, etc. fred1.jpg will work in the main /images/ folder but not in subfolders.

Since there is no easy way for me to rename the 5000+ filenames. Is there anyway that I can edit the script to allow the sub folder to recognize filenames without underscore?

eg.

Main: Fred.jpg
additonal: Fred1.jpg, Fred2.jpg
