Shipping Calculations Wrong

I need a little assistance from the Zen community. When I calculate shipping on an item from my store and the item is for example 10 lbs. The shipping module add 3 lbs to the items shipping weight with both USPS and UPS. I cannot figure out what is going on here.

if you add this item to the cart and estimate shipping you will see that the store reports it as 10lbs but the shipping calculations come back +3lbs. It doesn't seem to matter the quantity of items in the cart, it always add 3lbs. I'm at a loss and looking for advisement on this.
