Need help getting my store backup again :(

Hello ,

My site ( http://www.missingcord.com ) no longer loads. I have it hosted on dreamhost . I took a break from my store to deal with real life issues. When i came back to go back at it full time i noticed i was getting " system setup required " page . I thought i could just upload a backup copy i made of the web host folder with all the files.

I still got the system setup page . So then i decided to delete all the files from the ftp and do a fresh install from the dreamhost " One click install " I did that , edited the /MISSINGCORD/includes/configure.php to point to the old database. And then uploaded my backup files again.

It made old site colors come back and logo come back . but the images and pretty much everything else are still missing.


I don't know honestly what version i had before. I was using the paypal and Google checkout addons

Please help me fix this mess

When you deleted everything on the ftp, you will have deleted the /images folder which is where all your product imsges are stored you may need to restore that folder from the backup

Also all your template files will have been wiped, so you may have to hunt through a backup to find them.

first , thank you for getting me this far.

update:

I deleted the install of zen cart via the control panel of my host .
I then did a fresh install of zen cart. When it came time to get the Database Host and Database Name , I used what i had on includes\configure.php to show the install to the original database.

I let the install run as normal , set the permissions of the two new config files to 440. I edited the one in admin/includes to point to the renamed admin folder. Renamed the admin folder.

The site loaded just like a fresh untouched install. Then did a forum search for people have similar problems as i did. I can across this post

I saw where that user uploaded his backup copy of his includes/ folder to the new install and got some of the information back.

This gave me some of the text from my original site ( FAQ , front page text , contact information etc )

But the colors and layout still looked like the fresh install copy. I then read where you said to upload my images/ folder from the backup to the server. I did this and now , i have my site layout back and colors plus the front page image. But my items and categories are still missing and i have the default banner ads still on my site. What do i do next ? Please help me. I think i am almost back up and running .

Just before "getting the Database Host and Name" there is a button you click to "install" the Database. There is a Warning msg. advising you that any current Database will be overwritten. Looks like you didn't notice the msg. and now you have overwritten your previous database with a blank one.

If you have a previous database backup then I would Import it. Else contact your Hoster and see if the have a recent backup, using it might restore your missing database information.

wait is this the message you get from the one click install ? on dreamhost. where it ask you to make a new one or select one ? Because if that's the case , i selected the one from the config.php.

Is that the one your talking about ? or is this one from the page 4 of the install ?

update again: do you mean page 3 Prerequisites where it says

Ready to Install? (This will wipe any existing data. You are NOT in Upgrade mode!!!)

install or recheck.

trying to retrace my steps on a 2nd , separate domain with the zen cart install . to see if i can find what you said.

I am on page 4: Database Setup

I don't see anything about thing about overwriting the database

i checked the cpanel for dreamhost and it only lets me restore a data base from 4 days back.

this makes me sad because when i went back 4 days , i at least got some of the traffic counters back but none of the products. I didn't know how to make a database backup so i never did...

It seems my only hope now its too contact them and see if they have a older copy.

it looks like i really did it , this time. I will have to start over and re add all my modules and items. This will teach me to make backups.
