Sorry if this is a repeat (rookie issue) but it is either not on the forum or I'm searching the wrong key words.

I've gotten zen cart all set up and functioning on a test server and am now ready to dive into the customization aspects.

My question right now deals with the proper protocol for storing images so that there won't be any future upgrade issues I read about when people don't create custom folders.

currently I have the 3 items below working fine

1) product images stored @ /images

2) header images stored @ /includes/templates/template_default/images

3) custom template stored @ /includes/templates/custom/


I read where it is safe to add custom folders anywhere there is a classic folder. So for item 1 & 2 should I create a custom image folder and if I do this where do I reprogram the logic to now point to this location (if this is necessary). Noting that there is no /classic at root level which leads me to believe I should not do a /custom/images for item 1.
