Default Share products with Facebook, Twitter, etc

Why doesnt Zen cart automatically have this installed in their program like Ebay or other shopping cart programs? It is a vital selling tool!! The only two mods that have been created do not work and neither of the creators will answer emails or questions.

I am not a writer of code, heck, i don't even understand it, but i do know that this would be a valuable tool to have.

Default Social Media Icon Add On by Do Creative Design

I noticed that this is a relatively new submission (May 2011) and wonder if anyone has used it? I cannot get in touch with the guy. His test site listed is "not found" and his website does not contain this add on, although he has several other zen cart add ons listed.

Having a "Share" for products is vital these days. Most shopping sites have it incorporated. I cannot compete with etsy and ebay shops when their share button is automatically on the site and the two share add ons zen cart has ......neither author can be reached. One of the add ons lists a file that is not even IN the zen cart files at all. And the other author......well, as I said, i cannot find him.

suggestions? thoughts? direction? Any help would be greatly appreciated. My customers are screaming for this option! :)

    thank you,
    Mira

Nowhere in the "rules" regarding Opensource (and zencart) do I see a restriction that prohibits you from writing a module that does what you require.

If you are so keen to have these features, put on your thinking cap and write the modules.

When you're finished, publish them in the FREE add-ons section - just like the hundreds of other zenners have done FOR FREE, for the benefit of everyone else.

... is offensive and insulting. Get off your ######## and do it yourself!

Sir, I was just inquiring as to what happened to the two modules written? I do not write code. That is truly not my specialty. That is why I look to those who are "keen" for this kind of work. I simply asked a question. Just like hundreds of other zenners.

As I stated in the first post, "I am not a writer of code, heck, i don't even understand it, but i do know that this would be a valuable tool to have."

My posts were certainly NOT rude. However, yours, is.

Your response is offensive and rude. I am 100% sure you are NOT one of the creators of zen cart and I am sure they would not appreciate your remarks. You make me feel quite unwelcomed here.

@mooncavecrystals, if you look in the Free Software Add Ons section (link at the top left of this page), you'll see a bunch of mods that do this sort of thing.

People get their backs up when new members post complaints that Zen Cart doesn't do X or Y. The open source way is to scratch your own itch.
And in truth, these "features" are much less valuable than you might think.

Thank you. I have looked at the add ons and there are two there that are close to what I want. However, as I have posted earlier, one of the add ons has instructions to add to a file that is non existent and the other is no longer carrying that on his website (test or actual add on). I have emailed both, to no avail.

I was not demanding this from anyone, I was just asking questions and offering a suggestion, that's all. A customer of mine brought it to my attention and as a good shop keep, I was following up on how I could offer that to my customers. I was not complaining at all. I was asking for help, assistance, suggestions, thoughts.....all of these were clearly in my post.

I appreciate your comments and understand what you are saying. I am 50, I am self taught, and my knowledge of code is extremely limited. All I was doing was asking a question.

    Thanks again!

I have them, but on sophyblue tempalte the little Icons showed up on the product pages. I am using desert_noon and the words show up on the pages, not the icons.

Not sure what mods you are talking about, the autofacebook mod works. We use it. I have modified it so I can specify what product is listed on FB. I also use the Share Bookmarking Widget from the downloads. There is also the auto tweet, and numerous other twitter mods available. So there are plenty of options, not just 2.

Zen Cart and it's community are the best!!
