Expanding border around main area

i would like to add a border around my main area of my site to close it off but it will need to be able to expand with the site due to pages being different sizes and i cant seem to figure out how to accomplice this. included is a picture of where id like the border to be( in red )

for left side,

well we can try by using background image of navColumnOne and then repeat y

but it will be hard to do that for right side
