entries missing when trying to edit products

Hi,
I have a fresh install 1.3.9h.
-When I try to edit a product, edit page comes with Products Name, Products Description and Products Model, blank, without previous entries to these sections.
-The tax, product price and picture are there.
-The site displays correctly without anything missing.
-If I want to make an edit, I have to re-enter all information and the site will display correctly all the changes.
-I tried re-installing fresh cart 3 times, with new database for each installation. It is exactly the same.
-The rest of the cart is working like a charm, except editing products.
-As add-ons, I have only, column_layout_grid_v_1_3_8 and zen_lightbox-v1.6.2_20110220.

Another thing that I noticed, I have another zencart successfully running for over a year, (1.3.8). It's database has 95 tables and fresh installation of 1.3.9h comes with 93 tables. Is it normal?

It is painfully time wasting to re-enter all info every time I want to edit a product. Please help me out.

wanted to add one more detail, problem was there even before installing add-ons, without any changes applied to any php page or any adjustments done through admin. It was there right from the very beginning of the each fresh installation.

This was due to my server having PHP version 5.2.2, older than required version 5.2.3. Applied the fix suggested at
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=153143

All is in order now.
