Currently I have PHP Version: 4.4.9, Zen Cart 1.3.8a.
I want to upgrade to Zen Cart 1.3.9, but know it requires php5.
My hosting account will allow me to switch to php5.2. Is Zen Cart 1.3.8a compatible with php5.2.

It is compatible with the basics of PHP 5.2. You should be okay briefly while you do your Zen Cart upgrade.
