my customers do not get order confirmation and my admin does not receive confirmation when the order was placed. any help?

... and what do they say about the problem? Email doesn't just quit working, there has to have been a change somewhere.

Check with the webhost that PHP mail scripts haven't been recently disabled... this is going around
Then just setup SMTP mail in your Zen Cart and try it.
