version 1.3.9f, no addons. Somewhat custom layout in that I did not make it. I looked for similar forum entries but didnt quite find an answer. I have a couple of attributes for each product with upwards of 10 options for each attribute (color and fragrance) I have 'Select Color' and 'Select Fragrance' set as display only and default.

It works in that it won't add product to cart unless you pick both, the problem is, if you don't pick both, it does not give any kind of error telling the user why the product is not being added to the cart. It just stays on the product page. Please help.
