Default Having a 'GHOST' Development Server?

    Hi

I run a newish Zen Cart Store. I find myself constantly tweaking and improving on the design. But I would rather do this within a text environment.

How do people do this? Should I clone the store onto another domain and hide it behind a password, or use a local WAMP installation?

My concern with WAMP is that I tend to work in three different locations on different PC's.

    Suggestions?

Understand the problem. I work across two development machines and two laptops. I still prefer using local environments though as I prefer to develop incrementally checking changes constantly and catching errors immediately rather than trying to come back and debug later.

Our approach (i.e. used by all the developers at Kuroi) is to use local webservers on each machine, coupled with svn repositories for all code changes. This means that any change can be replicated with a single key click on any of the other PCs, and in our case, also allows changes by other developers on collaborative projects to be available to any of my machines.

Thanks for your reply Kuroi. I find it strange that other developers here do not have a view on this.

Do you mind me asking what software you are using locally? It sounds like your are running Linux based systems?

I've tried cloning my site onto a 2nd hosting account\domain but I just can't get it to run.

What we use locally depends on the platform. Xampp on Vista and 7, MAMP on Macs and native LAMP webservers on the Linux workstations.
