Since that post in my fiddling I turned ot_shipping on and it made things better. Now the item description and quantity are displayed in the order details on PayPal but when I hit print shipping label they are not displayed and there is no shipping information filled it, as in no service type or weight.
Your right, after I turned ot_shipping on the logs show everything is running fine and Zen Cart displays all the shipping info fine. I contacted paypal and they said that the logs say that it is nothing to do with the express checkout transferring the details and it has something to do with the paypal site, to which I was transferred to a different help center. Here they told me that those details are not transferred into multiship, which is frankly stupid since it clearly can they just didn't feel like writing it in the software. I then pointed out that it wasn't working in normal "print shipping label either", I stated this in my original email to them.
From here they haven't responded to my email for quite some time. Unless you can think of anything else I think Zen Cart and even express checkout is not to blame. Just Paypal being annoying again. Thank you very much for your help, I have learned a lot in the process of working this through.
-Ben
Zen Cart won't send the shipping details to PayPal properly if ot_shipping is off. So that would be the original problem.
The multiship and shipping label bits are definitely a PayPal issue. Can you give me the MTS tracking number for the ticket you have open with them? I might be able to get some more eyes on it for you.

Would KMM34697770V27473L0KM be that number? I sent my response email on 09/06/11.
I'm thinking more of a number that looks like this:
Reference Number 110906-000888
as logged at www.paypal.com/mts under My Stuff
or the equivalent in whatever emails you're exchanging with them ... I've never used just email to contact support, so I don't know what those look like, other than the confirmation emails I get when logging tickets using the MTS URL above.

When I first contacted them I did so through the merchant technical service. Then they said everything was fine when they looked at the logs and sent me to https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/websc...ontact-general where I emailed what appears to be the general site help center. At this point the mail problem the fact that on the print shipping label page I have to fill in all the shipping type, weight, package type and so on manually and the items in order are only displayed in the order "details" and not in the "print shipping label". According to them these never transfer to multiship which makes it much less helpful.
I made an inquiry and was informed the following:
- basically MOS doesn't collect item/weight information
- one exception there might be eBay integration where that data might be importable
- others have requested tighter sharing of data to MOS, and your inquiry essentially bumps it again as another "I want it too" vote
- As an alternative, you could download a copy of your history log and import into MOS and map it to some of the MOS values (but weight probably isn't available). This would probably be the best option at this point.
- Short of a change in feature functionality, the frontline and MTS staff can't do anything further at this point, apart from logging your request of the feature

Interesting how it works for Ebay but not us, just a little bias there.
Well maybe someday all the variables will be passed in and shipping will take seconds. For now I'll just have to enter the data manually. Thanks for all your help, maybe soon we'll see paypal taking our advice.
