    Default Attribut customer automatic update

    Hi,
Is there a way for attributes to update themselves as customers select them depending on whether they are in stock?
For instance if a customer is looking at a pair of boots and the first attribute option is to pick a colour (black or brown) and the customer chooses brown and if the next option was calf size then we would like it to only show the calf sizes of brown boots in stock for the attribute automatically. Then once a customer has chosen their calf size they may choose foot size and we would like only the foot sizes available in the colour and calf size that they have previously selected to display.

Is this possible either with an addon or within admin?

Sorry, no. That's called 'dependent attributes', and it isn't supported in Zencart now.

Thank you for your response Steve. Would a developer be able to design a mod for this? Or is it not at all possible?

If it is not possible at all is there a way to stop a customer purchasing a product with attributes that are out of stock? For instance if i have set up a product with attributes "Brown" and sizes: "6" "7" and "8" and i put the brown size 6 as 1 in stock and the other sizes as 0 it will still let the customer purchase the other sizes even though they are out of stock.

Anything is possible with open source software. I'm not a programmer, but this function has been asked for so many times in the forum that if it were a simple (or even time-effective) job, it seems like it would have been done by now. It's my understanding that the problem is to write a mod which would satisfy all possible attribute configurations.

I don't know if the Stock By Attributes mod turns off zero-quantity attributes or not.

Thought i would update this thread.

We found a simple, not perfect, way to do this.

When all attributes have been selected an Availability box on the product page tells the customer whether that attribute combination is in stock.

Hope this helps other people with similar issues. If anyone has any suggestions as to how we could develop this further then please let me know!

You can view a product at www.redpostequestrian.co.uk to see how it works.

Actually, I think I like that solution almost as much as the dependent attributes. Do you plan to provide the code to the community as a mod ?

BTW, I really like the design of your site, but it's very slow to load here this morning. Could be a routing thing, I guess.

    Hi Steve,

Thank you! We are happy with the design as well, spent months with the developers altering small details but happy with the end result. The load times i think is our server speed (unless anyone technical could tell us otherwise). We are looking to increase the speed of our hosting package. Please let me know feedback/ criticism on any aspect of the site as we are always looking to improve usability. Been live a month now and we have had sales since the day we went live

I will contact the developers and ask them if they can provide me with the code. We thought of the mod and explained it in detail, but they did the coding, so not sure what they will say, but hopefully they will be nice enough to let us give it out.

You might activate the Admin - Configuration - Logging - Display The Page Parse Time. We might get a hint as to the problem looking at those numbers.

If you paid the developers for that work, I would expect that the code would belong to you, but you may have a different agreement.

I have set Display Parse Time to true. Hopefully this can shed some light. Please let me know your thoughts...

    I got:

    Parse Time: 2.503 - Number of Queries: 911 - Query Time: 0.60677937580872

It was a lot faster that time. Here's an explanation, which suggests your problem is probably an overloaded server.
