Master Categories

Just set up new store with the newest version ov Zen. I've been a manufacturer in other zen stores before, so I know what I want to do, just not how. For some reason, my search feature in this forum won't work, so I'm asking here.

I want the manufacturers in my store to be a master category and I want them to show in the sidebox for Designers/Manufacturers but I don't want them to show in the Category sidebox. In the other store I sell at, my manufacturer name is the main category that I upload my products to and it shows as a master category. All the other categories I copy my product to show up in the categories sidebox, but my manufacturer name doesn't show up in the category sidebox, just in the manufacturer sidebox. I want the same setup in my store, so is that an add-on module that allows that or can I do that with just the basic Zen I have and if so, how?

Right now Scraps N Pieces as a manufacturer is not showing up in the category box at my store because I took all products out of that category, but I do want each designer as a master category but don't want the designers names to show in the category side box.

ok what I see at the other store is like mine...the categories block listing the main categories of the store then her Designer block which is the Merchant dropdown menu.

you want yours to have a designer block area too and not have the vendors listed in the categories?

If yes then when you set up your vendors in the admin/catalog/merchants then you can activate the block to show a dropdown menu and not the listing.

You can have a master category for all vendors and then plop each vendors item into their own section....helpful if only one should ever wish to put their entire store on sale by creating a new category called Vendors or Designers and making sure to click the green dot and turn it red. This will "hide" the category from the store end...

You will see in admin but customers will not.

Is that what you wanted? I see you have the designer block with just you in there---if you are not going to have any other vendors you might just turn it off and leave the categories block showing only.

Yes, I will have multiple designers and a dropdown menu for designers is fine. Yes, I want the designers to be able to have their designer name as the main category so they can put their store on sale if they want, but I do not want designer names to show in the category section

I'm thinking maybe I need to add a module that allows separate vendors to access only their areas of the store in order to do what you are saying. Let me know if I"m wrong. I did find this one here. but it says for version 1.3.5 and I have 1.3.9, and don't know if this is really what I'm looking for to do what I need. I know there is one by SimpleScripts, but I don't have the money for that one yet, so was looking for something cheaper that will get me by for a little while.

ok admin/catalog/ then about 10th item in that list is merchants---unless you changed it to designers.

now if you are going to give htem control pover their stores and you are not the one to put them on sale/set pricing/other things then I suggest you go to http: www dot custom scriptz dot com {remove spaces}

he has a great product, it does cost but when installed will give you a private area for the vendors to have whatever control on their items you wish to give them...it comes with an older version of IH so I would not install the one with the mod but I use it and am very happy with it. I do however still control things but they can do their own description and upload their own images.

otherwise they will not have access just your control and they can upload to an ftp folder which you can set up at your hosts c-panel area.

I tried that mod and could not get it to work right.

Ok, sorry, but I'm really new to all this, my 10th item is manufacturers, so I know I can add people there and then they will show up once they add a product. So I understand that part.

I figured out how to make Designers a master category and added the 2 designers so far as manufacturers under that category and it is turned off, so we are all good on that part. So I just have one more question

How do I activate the block so it is a dropdown instead? (Someone else helped me set up the other stuff, so I'm not sure)

admin/configuration/maximum values/Manufacturers List - Scroll Box Size/Style 1

setting to 1 will show a drop down menu--been so long I had to look for it...lol

no need for apologies either, we all started in the same not knowing how boat and I, myself, am still learning the cart ins/outs and codes.
