How to set up Free Shipping if BELOW certain amount

Hi! I have been reading and reading this forum and can't get this right...

I sell digital files and physical prints. The digital files should have FREE shipping while the physical prints have a flat rate.

Currently I have it set up so that when a customer checks out they can choose the $5.00 Flat Rate if they are purchasing prints or they can choose FREE shipping if they are purchasing the digital file only. However, for some reason a large amount of buyers don't notice the free ship option and go ahead and pay the $5.00 flat rate then complain to me afterwards that they were charged $5.00 for the digital file.

So is there a way to set up the shipping so that if the customer purchases a certain dollar amount they are automatically charged $5 but if they purchase below a certain $ they automatically get free shipping? So that they don't even have to worry about choosing flat rate or free?

My digital files all cost less than $24 while the prints cost $24 and up. So thought charging $5 if $24 and over and FREE if below $24 may be the best way to do this???

Make sure that you have the settings on the Download Products set for:

Product is Virtual: No, Shipping Address Required

Always Free Shipping: No, Normal Shipping Rules

You should also have set the shipping module FREE SHIPPING! freeshipper ... this will be the only one to show on Orders that are *only* Download Products ...

When it is a mixed cart of regular Products and Download Products you will see your other shipping method and the FREE SHIPPING! freeshipper will not show ...

The only thing is each item listing has the option for digital file or prints. It's not that one product is "virtual only" and another is "print only". When a customer purchases the product they choose from a dropdown attribute if they want the digital file or prints.

For now I have color highlighted the FREE shipping option for digital orders so I'm hoping that will make it more noticeable to shoppers.

The Attribute for the Print has weight ...

The Attribute for the Download has a filename ...

This will make the Physical Products have weight for shipping and the Download will not ...

Thanks so much, Ajeh! I really appreciate your time and help....but I'm sorry I don't understand your last reply. How/where do I enter weight for prints and "filename" for downloads? (what do you mean by filename?)

Sounds like what I need. I just got yet another order where digital file buyer paid for shipping costs instead of choosing the free ship option.

When you add your Attributes to the Products in the Attributes Controller, the Physical Prints would need a weight on the Attribute ...

The Download Attribute would need a filename on it and no weight ...

There are a couple things I still didn't understand so I just set up the Table Rate Shipping and that seems to work. I just set it up so that 23.99:0,24.00:5

Hi Ajeh, I would like to use the free ship option but i need the free ship for order above $100 but below 1.6kg. This cannot b done by the free ship options and i found an add-on Free Shipping Rules.

However, after I have installed and configured, I noticed when checkout it offers 2 shipping rate to choose: 1 is free ship, another base on table rate, as below:

Shipping quotes are based on the address information you selected:
Available Shipping Methods Rates
Free Shipping Rules (Free Rules) MYR0.00
Zone Rates (No shipping available to the selected country)
Zones Table Rate (1 x 1,545.00grams) (Within Peninsular Malaysia) MYR14.10

I've asked on the Free Shipping Rules addon [Support Thread] but nobody reply. Hope u can help. thanks in advance!

Two have two conditions in Free Shipping Options freeoptions ... find this code:

// final check for display of Free Options
      if ($this->ck_freeoptions_total or $this->ck_freeoptions_weight or $this->ck_freeoptions_items) {

and change it to read:

// final check for display of Free Options
      if ($this->ck_freeoptions_total and $this->ck_freeoptions_weight or $this->ck_freeoptions_items) {

See if that works for you ...
