How to add a new input field for products customization requests?

I'm using Zen cart 1.3.9h and want to add a new input field ('comments') for all the products. I want this new field to appear along with quantity input field. In this field I want to capture any product customization request from customers.

I found some posts on how to add a new field for products to display a new attribute, but none to add a new input field. Any input will be highly appreciated.

You can do that by adding attributes to your products. No programming required.

Thanks for your suggestion - I tried using attributes, but in this, the new field does not appear in product listing page. It appears only in 'product detail' page.

I want the new field to be visible in product listing page.

There is a thread describing how you can "force" attributes to show up in the listing page, and it requires a bit of re-coding.

You will find the thread by doing an appropriate search.

We did this a few years ago, and you have to tread cautiously. If you intend using only ONE attribute text field you are unlikely to experience problems.

And also... we found that we had to turn off the multiple-selector "Add Selected Products To Cart". Each product needed its own "Add to Cart button.
