Default Customizing home page with javascript

    Hi all,

I am a newbie to Zen Cart (just installed the newest version and created a custom template) and am fairly new to php as well.

I'm trying to convert a Zen Cart template to look like a different site I've been working on.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me out as to how to add a javascript image slider / slideshow to my zen cart home page.

The slider I have right now can be seen at www.brokenbird.ca I want to just place that same code (preferably inside an html table or something equivalent) into zen cart somewhere but I don't know where/how to place it into the php environment. It only needs to be active on the index page (where the new templates say "Congratulations on successfully installing Zen Cart".... etc) and not site-wide.

If anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks so much,

    Will

Can you not just put it on the define_main_page

admin--> tools --> define pages editor

a number of other templates especially those by picaflor azul do that

    Edit

Ok your page didn't load at first, now its decided to load, ok the above probably won't work if you want it right across the page (over both nav and content), rather than just content

That may bring me to my second question anyway. I am playing with the idea of doing a css dropdown menu at the top instead of the sidebar along the left side. If I ditch the menu on the left, it sounds like just pasting the code into the define pages editor like you suggest should work. I'm just not sure where to put the .js file. Although I think I saw a tutorial on that somewhere so not a big concern.

I will play around a bit and see what I can come up with.

Thanks for the tip anyway, I'm still figuring out exactly what the define pages editor can do. I keep feeling like I need to open the original php files to change anything but it sounds like I can do most everything from my zen cart admin login.

    Thanks.

normally you would put the js file in the js folder of your template.

Have a look at picaflor azuls templates to get an idea as she also uses a slider on most of hers, should give you a good idea of where files need to go

    http://www.picaflor-azul.com/free-de...erdeen_neutral

they are all free so you can download em and pull them apart to see how they go together
