Port 1129

I have a client who hosts his site at hostgator. He asked me to set up an e-commerce site for him and I plan to use Zen Cart. He uses First Data Global Gateway and while looking at the requirements for the LinkPoint API I noticed the following:

*Port 1129 is used for bidirectional communication with the gateway, so must be open on your host's router/firewall

I checked and Hostgator does have port 1129 open but only for outbound. Before I start a search for another hosting company, I want to make sure that the LinkPoint API does require the port to be open for both outbound and inbound.

Thanks for your reply...

I actually read that tutorial before I started to install the module. But the "bidirectional communication" in the requirements when you are actually installing the API contradicts that. That's why I wanted to confirm one way to the other before I move forward on Hostgator.

Can anyone confirm that the LinkPoint API works on a Hostgator shared server?

Yes. It will work for outbound communication specifically. We'll get the FAQ article updated if you can indicate where you saw the "bidirectional" mention.

I didn't see it in an FAQ article. I saw it from within the Zen Cart admin section when installing the LinkPoint API payment module. When you click on the payment module to install it, the list of requirements appears to the right. The third one down states:

*Port 1129 is used for bidirectional communication with the gateway, so must be open on your host's router/firewall

The article that stevesh linked to above states that it requires only outbound.

I just don't know which is correct; the requirements listed when installing the module or the article linked to in the above post.

I would prefer not to proceed further with Hostgator until I know for sure that the LinkPoint API will work on their shared hosting with port 1129 open for outbound and closed for inbound.

Outbound is all that is required for LinkpointAPI at this present time. We'll fix the typo in a future version.

In my experience to date, Hostgator works just fine with linkpoint. I can't speak for future cases or your experiences.
