Product Listing Download add to cart button

1.3.9h I'm wondering if this post by DrByte from 2009 is still relevant and will give me the results I'm looking for.

I've set up many carts but this is my first with download products and I've tried for weeks now to get a configuration that will allow the customer to add a selection of download products to their cart from the Product Listing page.

My current attempt has the album as a category and each tracks as a product with one pre-selected attribute radio button.

this post by DrByte requires lots of edits and it is a closed 09 thread.

The example someone posted does not really do what I want but keeps requiring the customer to return to the product listing page.

So can adding several download products to the cart on one click be done in 1.3.9h?

The post by DrByte requires four edits, which are explained pretty clearly. I'm not sure if there would be any problem with those edits in 1.3.9h, but if I wanted that functionality, I would create a test Zencart installation, make the edits and check things out.

There's no other mod I'm aware of that does that.

Does seem like it would be a handy mod for download-only sites.

It can be adapted for 1.3.9 by making similar edits. I've not compared the code with 1.3.9, but I don't think a direct copy+paste will work seamlessly without breaking new things added in 1.3.9. YMMV

As with all upgrades, concepts are essentially universal. Their implementation may have to be altered slightly to suit the new version.

It may be beyond me to do this but I may continue to fiddle with it. I'll post any success.

Do you think this functionality will be a part of future releases?

It's already built into the 2.0 specifications. But to apply it to v1.3.9 or 1.5.0, you'll need to make the edits manually yourself.

That's great. I guess I could wait but I just went through the files from 1.3.9h mentioned in the old post comparing to zencart 1.3.8a and it appears that the code in the sections that require edits are exactly the same.

I'll try and see what happens.

Correct.

I've just checked:
The edits are safe to apply to original core files of v1.3.9; just use care since the line numbers have changed in several cases.

SUCCESS!!! A little dicey...but not too....WinMerge was invaluable.

Now, just FYI I have a clean install of 1.3.9h and no mods added. As far as I know there are no ill effects. I did change the button name to "Add To Cart" and the return to shopping function takes me back to the Product Listing page to grab more tracks. Excellent!
