Default Can't access CONFIGURATION (Admin page)

    v1.39

I have no idea what happened and have not made any changes to my copy of ZC for quite some time.

I wanted to change a few configuration settings this morning and I get the same error message for every option under Admin/configuration:
    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

So now what in the heck am I supposed to do?

I get the same message when using Firefox or IE

    FWIW,
I am able to access all of the other items on the Admin page.

You will find a pointer to the cause of the error in your server error log. (Can usually be acessed via the host account C-Panel).

Go take a look there and post the details of the error.

Okay, found the error log. I went to my Admin page and clicked on Configuration/My Store, then I copied the following from my Error Log:
[Sun Sep 04 06:25:49 2011] [error] [client 174.24.42.6] File does not exist: /home/NAME/public_html/500.shtml, referer: http://wwwdotWEBSITENAMEdotcom/ADMIN/
[Sun Sep 04 06:25:49 2011] [error] [client 174.24.42.6] SoftException in Application.cpp:256: File "/home/NAME/public_html/ADMIN/configuration.php" is writeable by group, referer: http://wwwdotWEBSITENAMEdotcom/ADMIN/
[Sun Sep 04 06:25:29 2011] [error] [client 98.93.146.247] File does not exist: /home/NAME/public_html/404.shtml
[Sun Sep 04 06:25:29 2011] [error] [client 98.93.146.247] File does not exist: /home/NAME/public_html/favicon.ico
    [
I've looked in my cpanel file manager and I do see the public_html folder and a quick look at the contents shows the various folders and files to be intact. The website is up and running, orders can be placed, pics are there....

    Color me confused.....

Not sure if this is correct but I went into public_html/configuration.php and changed the permission from 777 to 755.
Looks like that worked but I'm clueless as to how it got changed to 777 to begin with.

What should the permissions be set to?

Certainly the folders should be 755. Only a handful of folders need be 777 (see the DOCS in a ZC file-set), and even then it is preferable to have some of these at 755 unless you need them writeable for short periods (such as images folders).

But it also looks like configuration.php was set to 664, where 644 is the norm. I cant think of any files in the ZC set-up that need 664 permissions... all should be 644.
