No, because then the customer would be selecting a state, rather than typing one in. As I previously stated, this only happens when the customer has to type their state in.
I am confused ... if that wasn't there, then where would they type it?![]()

I think you may of misunderstood the problem.
So for a customer in the UK, when they type their state (rather than select it from the dropdown list) in the input box underneath where it says "Type a choice in the box below ..." they get this:
' Typed State' <-- extra space in front of Typed, compared to:
'Selected State' <-- which has no space in front of it.
