Promo codes that trigger free gift?

I know you can create promo codes that allow discounts, but can you create a promo code that means the customer gets a free gift with a following order?

For example, if someone buys a food hamper, when they receive it they find inside a promo code that gets them a free bar of chocolate with their next order?

Nothing is built in to do this. But you could certainly add a coupon code to an email - manually or automatically - if you wanted to (of course the later would require some coding).
