Default Prices, different prices for each option.

I'm setting up a photography gallery shop.

My photo lab offers several finishing options and several sizes.

What I'm trying to do is set up different prices for each product.

Four finishes are Lustre finish, Metallic finish, Textured linen lustre, lextured linen metallic finishes.

Sizes are basic sizes like 5"x7", 8"x10", etc...

So lustre finish 5"x7" is 6.00

    Metallic finish 5"x7" is 7.28

Lustre finish 8"x10" is 15.00 etc...

Where each finish and size will have a different price.

    How do I do this?

At first glance, it is aparrent that your options have what is known as "Attribute Dependancy", and this makes setting up product attributes a little more challenging than usual.

Attribute dependancy is a feature that can best be described as...

Make options offered in Attribute Set "B" be determined by what may have been selected earlier, in Attribute Set "A".

So... in your case, you have a pricing variable on the SIZE as well as on the FINISH.

Ideally, you would like an Attribute Dependancy function, that looks at what was initially chosen, and applies a price increase factor that relates to the second option chosen.

But zencart (like most OpenSource eComm systems), does not offer a "generic" Attribute Dependancy feature - mostly because every user's needs are unique - and a "one-size-fits-all" solution are just not possible.

You can get round this, however.

Still using the attributes function, you set up SIZE attributes and FINISH attributes.

This is done using the Option Names interface (firstly), and then when you have set up your Option Names, you assign Option Values to them.

Take a look at a recent post I made:

You can do it with attributes. Zencart doesn't do dependent attributes, so you would have to list each possibility as a separate attribute.

The printing would be the product, and the attributes would be:

    Lustre 5X7
    Lustre 8X10
    etc.

    Metallic 5X7
    Metallic 8X10
    etc.

and you would set up your products as 'priced by attribute'.

    schoolboy's way is probably better.

Thanks for showing a specific example, Steve. (We can always depend on you to flesh out explanations and provide further pointers!)

One thing missing from that tutorial (and I'm shocked since I learned it from Linda) is the method for making sure the right attribute is selected.
For example, if you have an option name of color and option values of red, green, blue, and yellow a customer could complete an order without having actually selected the color they want.
Adding an option value of "Please Select..." or "Select a Color, making it sort order zero, setting it as Display Only, and make it the Default.
Then, if a customer attempts to add the item without actually selecting a color, they will receive a reminder that they need to select a color.
The customer can never say, "I wanted green and you sent me red." And, you'll never have to wonder if they really wanted the color on the order.
    A little help with colors.

I also tend to offer that advice...
