Turning off subcategory listings: fix didn't work?

The fix suggested here http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=89745 did not work for me. I altered every incidence of stylesheet.css and print_stylesheet.css to include the line a.category-products {display: none;}

My intent is to remove all the subcategory listings, which are currently grouped by box count to facilitate structured discounts, and replace these listings in the center box with the keyword search box and manufacturer search box. I doubt customers really want to see these subcategories; they exist only so that we can assign the correct discount levels to the products.

That advice was for the subcategory links in the sidebox. To hide the subcategory listing in the center, set Configuration > Product Listing > Show SubCategories on Main Page while navigating >set to 0.

By the way, there is also an admin setting for the sidebox:
Configuration > Layout Settings > Categories - Always Open to Show SubCategories.
