Novice questions

After scouring the faq and google for the past day or so to solve a few problems I was having (love the community responses ) , I came across a couple that have been bugging me and leaving me stumped and a bit frustrated. Course, could just be the lack of sleep and monster drinks kicking in

For starters, I cant seem to find the right section of the css file to edit this problem :



where there are double bars across the sub category groups. Hoping someone would be kind enough to help me on this.

and by the same token, the sidebox thats part of the template I cant seem to remove. I tried removing the .php file associated with them but that just left the header tabs and table.

I also am wondering if there is a way to reorder product listings (new, featured, etc..) as columns for the main page, preferably in their own separate carousel.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

and as a personal query, I'm planning to add in a blog-like section for my site, and I'm wondering if it would be better to go with the wordpress mod and integrating that with the site or by using ez-pages and just hotlinking to those.

scratch the first question, ended up looking up the element in google chrome and deleting the line height under productlisting-rowheading in the template's css file.

As for the side box displayed in the zj black 2 template, I deleted that by removing column-three in mods/zj_black_2 and I'm now in the process of reorganizing the main page so its just one column.

leaving just one thing left - if theres a way for both special products and featured products to be put on a carousel side by side.

Perhaps I should rephrase the question - how would I put certain sideboxes in the main content section? Would I have to give each its its own div tag id then put it in?

I don't think I understand exactly what you're asking, but the only way I know to move sideboxes into the center column is by using position: absolute; in the stylesheet. Each sidebox already has it's own id name. I'm not sure why you'd want to do that, though.

Far as the blog, I would integrate Wordpress, but I wouldn't use the mod. I've used the instructions on Numinix's site, and they work well, though they are a little hard to decipher.

There is a difference between "putting the sideboxes into the main content area" and "re-creating sidebox BEHAVIOUR in the main content area".

Sideboxes are configured (by some quite complex PHP) to behave and render their content in a very specific way, and rely on the fact that they are destined to be positioned in the side columns.

If you want to replicate their behaviour, so that the behaviour occurs in the main content area, then again, some significant PHP coding is required. The nature of the code required will then depend to a large extent, on what each specific sidebox is designed to achieve - so there is no "global" solution.
