Default Currency Values revert to 0.0000

    Hi everyone,

I am having issues again with the currencies, the values keep revertiing to 0 and it doesn't matter how many times I change them to 1.000000 they keep going back to 0. I have deleted all and left Australian dollars and added USD and GBP thinking that would help and it hasn't.

Also when I try to update the currencies the page is slow to load and eventually I have Internet Explorer cannot open the page. In Firefox the page is also slow to load but the currencies show up as 0.

I have also noticed that if the currencies are not updated from the primary exchange server (oanda) and it goes to the secondary exchange server (XE) then they become 0 and the values for all currencies are changed to 0.
I have followed the faq listed below

Check all your currencies in Admin-> Localization-> Currencies.
    a) Make sure you have a default currency set properly. Even if it looks right, click on it, edit it, and re-save it with "default" checked
    b) Make sure your currency rates are NOT set to zero

If that doesn't solve it, go to Admin-> Catalog-> Product Types-> choose your most common product type by clicking on it. Then click >Edit Layout
Make sure Allow Add To Cart is enabled.

Check Admin->Configuration->My Store->"Switch to Default Language Currency". The default for this setting is 'false'. If it's set to 'true', then you'll need to check your language file (ie: english.php, for your custom template) and verify that the LANGUAGE_CURRENCY setting matches a valid currency as defined in your list of currencies from step #1 above.

If anyone has any ideas how to sort this out I would really appreciate it.

    My website is http://www.spiritconnectionart.com/catalogue

What version of Zen Cart are you using?

    Zen Cart 1.3.8a
    Database Patch Level: 1.3.8

Has your site been upgraded? When? From what version(s)?
    No

What addons have you installed? Direct Bank Deposit - Australian
    Paypal
    Auspost
    Printable Pricelist
    Add Customer
    Aberdeen Neutral Template
    When?
All have been installed for at least 2yrs Template was added about June

In what ways is your site customized or different from a brand new uncustomized install?
Using Aberdeen Neutral Template but have changed the colours.

If you're encountering display/layout problems, post your site URL* so it can be seen in action.

If you're encountering problems that could be related to your server or hosting company, include the name of your hosting company (not their URL).
    Planet Domain

HAVE YOU LOOKED IN THE FAQ AREA for answers to your question? (ie: a search for your error message or what you want to edit/change, etc)
Yes I did everything in the tutorials

Have you searched the FORUM for your error message or for answers to the question you're asking?
Yes and I followed the information on the forum

WHEN did the problem "start"? Today but it was having issues with the updating having to be updated at least 6 times before the currencies would not show 0.0000000

How does that compare with other events of your hosting company, changes you've made to your site files/addons, or your admin settings, etc?
The rest of the site is operational just sometimes it shows $0 for the products

If this is your first store, have you tested all aspects of transactions before going live? Store has been operational for a few years now.

    1. You're using an obsolete version of Zen Cart which contains several serious well-known vulnerabilities, allowing hackers to do malicious things to your site. You should immediately do a thorough evaluation of your site to ensure that nothing rogue has been done, and upgrade to the latest version immediately.

    2. If your currency updates are done manually, as in *you* do them when *you* want to make an update, and it's only *then* that you're seeing prices go to 0, then judging by the symptoms you described, it could just be that your server is encountering timeouts when talking to the xe or oanda servers. You can easily work around that by manually setting your own exchange values for each currency. If manual edits won't save, then you need to sort out why that's suddenly become a problem. That could be related to your site being damaged by an intruder. It could also be caused by your hosting company making server-side changes that are affecting normal operation.

In order to avoid spending more time than necessary, both the xe and oanda servers have been timing out from Adelaide, Australia, and possibly Australia wide for the last 36 hours or so.
