Orders in Admin and order email not working

Customer orders are not showing in Orders list in Admin and no email is being sent to the store owner telling him what has been bought.
Paypal is working and accepts payment.
Email to store owner when a new customer account is created is working fine and the new customer details show in the Customer page in Admin but it states 'number of orders zero' even though they have ordered items.
This was a problem when the store was in v1.3.7 so i upgraded to 1.3.9 hoping it would solve it but it still exists.
I cannot see what could be causing this, please can someone help me urgently as i have customers that are complaining as i cannot see what they have ordered

I have searched many threads looking for someone that may have had the same problem but couldn't find one. The server company state that it cannot be a problem on the server.

Paypal IPN or Express ? If IPN, try removing that and installing Express.

Thank you. Do you know if i would need to change anything in Paypal if i wanted to use paypal express? What is the difference?

You'll have to configure Paypal Express, but the settings should be the same. Express is a lot more stable than IPN.

Always install the 'recover cart sales' mod too, so if this problem ever occurs, you can see what people had in their basket before the error happened.

Click Remove on the IPN module. Then click Install on the Express Checkout module and set up as instructed: www.zen-cart.com/getpaypal
