custom link to place product in cart

I'm needing a way to give a customer a specific link that basically just adds a product to the cart where the name and price are built into the link. This would be for custom products where there is no way that it can be built into attributes. Basically, I would email the customer the total cost and a link and when they click it, it will automatically add a custom product to the cart. Then they would simply need to checkout.
I have done this previously - a few years back when I used zencart before, but I don't remember what the link was. Basically, it was a generic link that I just edited the product name and product price. Can someone help me with this please?

I'm not sure if that is what I'm referring to. Previously, I had a link saved in my favorites that I used as my "default link" which I just edited depending on the circumstances.

It was something like www . yourzencart . com/index.php?product_cost=4.97&product_name=MyCustomProduct

That is not the link or anything - it's just an example and similar to what I remember having. I could then just edit the product cost and the product name directly within the link and when the customer clicked on it, it would take them directly to the shopping cart with a product with that title and that cost added so they could check out. The name didn't have to match a particular product setup in the store - I could put anything I wanted in there. I used to use this for custom orders or actual shipping charges and I would name it something like Shipping_for_Order_2598 or something like that.

I don't remember if there needed to be a product setup that I would use for it but I'm sure if it needed to be setup, it would need to be hidden so that customers couldn't just browse to it.
