Help!
I have a zc 1.3.9h site that I cannot get to act right for e-mails. If I use PHP as the mail transport, the messages go out, but are rejected by the mail server because it requires auth. If I use SMTP auth, the mail appears to send fine (generates no error log in the cache, nothing in the E-mail Archive Manager plug-in) but never arrives. What might I be doing wrong here? I need a fix fast ahhhhh!

If your server is rejecting your emails, ask the server administrator why.

It's rejecting the emails being sent using the PHP wrappers because it's an authenticated smtp server and the wrapper doesn't do that.
I can't figure out what's happening with smtpauth, though; it's not generating any events or I dunno where to find 'em

I've read through all three of those documents... I still don't see anything
The e-mails sent with smtp-auth are just ghosts at this point; they're never appearing in the logs on the SMTP server, even as failures. They archive just fine in zen cart. Where are they going?! Is there a log for the smtpauth transport that i could be asking the web host for?

That's what I had to do. I provided two email addies I was testing so they could grep them, and they sent me the results.

tell a friend does not work, and if I were them I wouldn't let it work either.
