Default Zen Lightbox - Image Size Constraint question

    1.3.9h

I'm doing a website for a costume store. As such we have several vendors who are more than happy to provide professional product photographs for us to use. The images vary in size company-to-company. Most are very large.

I'm trying to avoid resizing thousands of images AND/OR forcing the customer to scroll down to close the lightbox overlay.

Can someone tell me how to automatically constrain large image height/proportions so as to fit within the height of the user's browser window instead of defaulting to the image's actual size?

When faced with this situation, we always batch re-size the images with Photoshop making sure that we are not increasing the size of any image.
Of course, we start all sites off with Fual Slimbox rather than the lightbox. Just looks better.

Yes, but the goal is to not change the image size at all incase the customer wants to right-click the image and 'View Image' in full detail.

I'm aware of batch resizing, but it doesn't solve the problem.

    No idea what Fual is.

The solution works for the question as you stated it. Perhaps you should have added that you wanted a customer to view a larger version of the version presented by Lightbox or a similar program using the right-click view image option?

IF you are talking about the customer right-clickiing and then selecting view image for the "original size", the only way you can currently do this is to use Image Handler 3 but I would still suggest you use Slimbox with it.

I don't know of any way to click in Lightbox or Slimbox to make that image larger other than right-clicking as mentioned above.

I'm not looking for an alternative to right-clicking to view the full sized image. I'm only looking to constrain the image size/proportions to reflect the available space in the user's browser window.

Even if I resize images to an anticipated maximum size to fit a minimum 1024x768 monitor's window, it's impossible to take into account varying instances of user's browser toolbars/add-ons that also take up screen real estate. People with small displays and many toolbars will still have to scroll an image. Meanwhile, people with larger displays will not get the benefit of a large image to fill it.

Can you point me to a website that uses Fual Slimbox please? (using large images, i saw the creator's website)

So... The first response will work, but you will need to decide an image size. Sorry, but once again, I'll have to bust a bubble. For just a few years now, the 1024x768 has NOT been the norm. It's rapidly becoming the size of the iPhones, Droids, iPads, and tablets. Check out a really good article at http://tinyurl.com/2vs2b23. Especially take a look at item number 3.

Like with your Contact Us question elsewhere, we should be "entangling" the customer with so much function and information that they should not feel a need to to anything but place an order. Giving such a detailed description that having to scroll to see and image completely would be eclipsed by the feeling that they already "know" the product.

And... Here's one site using Slimbox like I would. http://tinyurl.com/65yo29w. The site also presents well on an iPad2 with iOS5.
