Default Override System / Commercial Template

    Hi,

I know specific commercial template questions aren't answered here but I do have a general question that touches on these.

If a commercial template is installed, does that negate then using the override system as described here in the "How do I create a new Custom Template?" FAQ?

To clarify for myself... the override system as described here at zen-cart.com is used to work on a fresh install of Zen, to then customize a site. If I understand... a commercial theme actually IS an override (or custom) template.

Is this correct? Just trying to better understand.

    Thanks
    John

Yes, a properly-written theme should use overrides. Commercial or not.
If it doesn't, then you should seriously consider the author's understanding of Zen Cart's templating and the reliability of their edits/alterations especially in light of what features they might have broken ... and whether you really want to pay for that, and whether they'll fix things to work properly included in their price.

I think I've got it now. I actually got a little hung up on the use of the word "CUSTOM" in many references... forgetting that the name used is a bit arbitrary.

Yes, it does appear that this theme I have does indeed use the override system.

    Thanks

Just think of "your_template" whenever you see the word "custom". Makes it easier to grasp.

I'm slowly getting it, though being purely an end user my grasp on some of these concepts is still tenuous :)

    Thanks

Once you get the hang of it, you'll wonder why you thought it was difficult. That's what happened to me.
