removing download locations

Hi I've got a problem with zen cart removing the temporary locations in /pub they seem to get refreshed every so often and hence old people can't download their files despite the download number or the number of days not expiring.
Can anyone help!

Huh now this is odd I've changed some file permissions and it's started to work but now I have to edit the simlink for the file in winscp for it to work. Any Ideas?

and when I try and download the file it changes the link and then gives me a 403.
Ideas?

fixed it permission problem very odd though

The temporary locations are removed whenever another download starts. They are one-time-use-only anyway. New symlinks are created whenever they click to download another time. The old one is not needed, nor kept.
Manually adding symlinks using ftp or winscp is not a solution.
As for permissions, the pub folder needs to be writable. Everything else will get inherited if the server is operating properly.

Yeah thanks for your reply your on the money with how it works.
It was just a perm issue, we had just moved servers and something had gone wrong.
Thanks though for your explanation very helpful to anyone else looking round here.
