Default Can I exclude terms from search results? ie: "ABC" AND NOT "ABCD"

    Hello, my friends!

I really enjoy the Zen Cart and I built my site using this forum for information... a lot. Thank you.

Now, I hope to find help here, because I searched google and this forum, but have no success. So, it's my last option.

My site is about car engine oils. Hope you are interested by cars, as I am. Engine oils have specifications. I want to build the EZ-pages side-box or a single page with links for all the specifications. The specifications are in the description of products.

The only way to get the links that I know is to use the search.

So I search "ACEA A3/B3" and I get the link of all my products that contain this term or phrase. That's how my guys can get the products that they need the easy way.

But I have this problem: Mercedes-Benz has this specifications:

    MB 229.3
    ... and
    MB 229.31

When I search "MB 229.31" I get the right results with ONLY products containing this phrase in the description.

BUT: When i search "MB 229.3" I get results with products containing "MB 229.3" AND "MB 229.31". I don't want these to show.

    Is there any option?

I know Google search engine has this:

Attaching a minus sign immediately before a word indicates that you do not want pages that contain this word to appear in your results. The minus sign should appear immediately before the word and should be preceded with a space. For example, in the query [ anti-virus software ], the minus sign is used as a hyphen and will not be interpreted as an exclusion symbol; whereas the query [ anti-virus -software ] will search for the words 'anti-virus' but exclude references to software. You can exclude as many words as you want by using the - sign in front of all of them, for example [ jaguar -cars -football -os ]. The - sign can be used to exclude more than just words. For example, place a hyphen before the 'site:' operator (without a space) to exclude a specific site from your search results.
Is there an close option for zen cart. Or ideas for a different approach?

    My site is www.motorni-ma sla.net /without the space/.

The specifications are the first option of the top menu.

Sorry to activate an old thread but the OP is asking exactly the same question as I was about to ask. Basically, what I'd like to be able to achieve is a way of excluding words from a site search. Go to www.silkblooms.co.uk and search for 'jade galaxy' and you'll see what I'm trying to achieve. I want to send a link to my customer containing a search result that displays the last six products in the above result (JADE RANGE), but excludes the first three results (ANDIE RANGE).

Logically, something in the search box like, 'jade AND galaxy NOT andie' ? Is there a switch for, NOT?

At the moment I can achieve this in the advanced search by using a date filter but a NOT switch would be better :)

Looking at your meta description for "Galaxy Blue Orchids White Roses and Stargazer Lilies Bespoke Wedding Flowers Andie Bride"
It is rather wordy(long) and contains the term "jade" and many descriptors like "and", "Beautiful", "gorgeous"
Where it should be only terms and not modifiers as in human readable text

    Code:
Stunning Galaxy Blue Orchid and White Lily & Rose Bridal Bouquet Galaxy Blue Orchids White Roses and
Stargazer Lilies Bespoke Wedding Flowers Andie Bride Contemporary purple and white cascading bridal bouquet.
Bouquet with purple and blue gerberas and galaxy blue orchids. Beautiful gorgeous fresh touch white stargazer
lilies and roses. Galaxy blue orchids tweaked to match a purple and jade theme.
Totally unique, bespoke bridal bouquet, handmade to order. Tied off in a white satin ribbon with purple and
jade ribbon bow. www.silkblooms.co.uk the best for modern artificial flowers.
Orchids, roses, lilies and ribbons can be changed to any colour. We also make matching items for all of
    our wedding flowers.
Also, your site does not display a lock when in https:

I'm not sure why it's not showing a lock in https but I'll look into that, thank you. Maybe because it's a GoDaddy SSL certificate, but maybe there are http links to images on the page.

Yeah, we'll get that a lot though due to the nature of our site. I was just wondering if there was a way to exclude words from a search? Sort of the opposite of the AND and OR switches you can use in the search box? Like a BUT NOT switch?

The only switch that I am aware of is
admin > my store > Default Search Operator

I do not believe that the search function supports Boolean operators

IIRC Instant Search (like Googles) mod allows boolean searches.
