Internal Server Error

Please help! I can not get into my website or admin. I have not changed any of the config.

I am getting the following error in the server error log:

"[Thu Nov 03 13:42:10 2011] [error] [client 124.168.138.225] File does not exist: /home/ani48156/public_html/500.shtml
[Thu Nov 03 13:42:10 2011] [alert] [client 124.168.138.225] /home/ani48156/public_html/store/.htaccess: Invalid command 'ExpiresActive', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration"

What has happened and how do I fix it???

I deleted this from the .htaccess file:

ExpiresActive On
ExpiresDefault "access plus 15 days"
ExpiresByType image/gif "access plus 15 days"
ExpiresByType image/png "access plus 15 days"
ExpiresByType image/jpg "access plus 15 days"

The website is up again but is the section I deleted important?
Why is it suddenly an invalid command?

Native, core Zencart does not have .htaccess in the root directory.

Who put that file there... and why?

I did, months ago, for image caching.

I just don't understand why the ExpiresActive has worked without error for months then suddenly today stops working.

My host company reckon that it was a Zencart error and was not their problem.

I have read on the net that sometimes the Apache version can affect it??

I don't know much about htaccess commands, so I cannot comment on the value of your actions... but I will say that tinkering with htaccess can have MAJOR consequences.

Core ZC works just fine for us, and as the advice is not to have htaccess in the root, we don't mess about with it. We "don't try to fix what aint broke".

That would be a consequence of the hosting company doing something that changed the server's Apache configuration.
Yes, an unattended Apache update could do that, especially if the server administrator didn't pay attention to what the upgrade was doing.

If they're not paying attention to that, then keep your eyes wide open to what other things they're doing (or not doing) that might affect the quality of service they're providing to you.
