I would like to setup Simple SEO URLs on my zen cart store but I have a problem. I am on a shared server for my hosting and the module requires mod_rewrite to be enabled. The problem is that it isn't and my hosting service won't enable it as it would affect everyone on that server. They sent me this message but I'm not well versed in .htaccess or controlling server functions. Could anyone help me out with understanding it? I'd rather not have to cancel my hosting and move my site to a VPS, at least not yet.

Yes we do allow customer ,htaccess files. Just make sure to place them in the correct directory. As for the mod_rewrite option it is not possible to change the current setting because it is a global setting and would effect everyone on the server. You have two options with it. You can alter it by way of a customer .htaccess file, or by altering the script to load a customer config file on the fly whenever it loads.
