Jewelry attributes

I'm setting up version 1.3.9h for a jewelry store. I am a noob at attributes and have what I hope will be an easy question with an easy solution.

I have 4 catagories, white diamonds, black diamonds, blue diamonds and brown diamonds. for each color catagory I have 4 sub-catagories, rings, pendants, earrings and bracelets. So far so good.

All of the earrings, pendants and bracelets will come in only one size, however I need to offer a size option for the rings. There is no standard formula for pricing based on size because the difference in gold required. For example a size 5 ring selling for $500 may use an additional $50 of gold to size it up to size 9. Another model size 5 ring selling for $1000 may need an additional $150 in gold to size it up to size 9.

So I do not believe that I can simply add attributes for size that will reflect the price on all rings. Seeing as how I'll be offering 9 size options for each ring, will I need to create one attribute option name with 9 option values for each ring?

What would be the best way for me to set this up?

You would want the one Option Name for Size then create the Option Values for the Sizes ...

Note: it would be useful to create an extra Option Value for:
Select your size ...
Display Only: YES
Default: YES
Sort Order: 0

and that way the customer will have to make a real choice on the Size and not a mistake on the size ...

That worked perfectly!!! Thank you. Now i would like to add another attribute for gold color (white, rose or yellow). Can I have the product image change according the the type of gold selected?

Add a new Option Name such as Color ... then the 4 Option Values for:
What Gold color
Display Only: YES
Default: YES
Sort Order: 0

then the 3 colors:
white
rose
yellow

as to changing the Product image, that would require custom code ... you might look in the Free Add Ons for something on:
Attribute

and see if there is an image changer made for that ...
